Aundha Nagnath Temple — Jyotirlinga Guide
Aundha Nagnath, in Hingoli district of Marathwada, is widely revered as the first (Adya) Jyotirlinga. Its ancient, elaborately carved Hemadpanti temple is one of the most striking of the five.
About Aundha Nagnath Jyotirlinga
Aundha Nagnath (Nageshwar) is regarded by many traditions as the first of the twelve Jyotirlingas, though there is a long-standing debate over whether the Nageshwar Jyotirlinga refers to Aundha or to the shrine near Dwarka. The temple is built in the Hemadpanti style with intricate stone carving and is traditionally linked to the Pandavas and to the saint Namdev.
How to reach Aundha Nagnath
Aundha is about 25 km from Hingoli and roughly 60 km from Nanded, which has the nearest airport and a major railway junction. Parbhani (~50 km) is another rail option. On a full 5-Jyotirlinga circuit it is reached after Grishneshwar and before Parli Vaijnath.
Darshan timings & best time to visit
The temple is generally open from around 4:00 AM to 9:00 PM and is open all year; during Shravan, Monday darshan can begin much earlier. October to March is the most comfortable season, with Mahashivratri drawing a large fair. Confirm current timings with the temple trust before travelling.
